Ephesians 6:1-3 (NIV)
Children, if you want to be wise, listen to your
parents and do what they tell you, and the Lord
will help you. For the commandment, “Honor your
father and mother’ is the first commandment with
a promise.’
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for
this is right. 2 “Honor your father and
mother”—which is the first commandment with a
promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you
and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
Exodus 20:12 (KJV)
“Honor
your father and your mother, that your days may
be long upon the land which the Lord your God is
giving you.
In
this well-known passage, children learn of the
significant role that godly mothers have in our
lives. All of us — whether we are children or
are raising them — we should remember to give
honor to mothers and/or the mother figure in our
lives.
The
celebration of all mothers is observed on Sunday
May 14, 2017. While, of course we honor mothers
every day; this is the day especially set aside
for moms- who are a source of kindness,
righteousness, respect and devotion. We often
refer to our mothers as pure and virtuous and we
are encouraged to reflect upon the blessing of
our mothers in our lives.
I
would like to personally and publically
acknowledge the impact of my dear Mother, Katie
Parker on her children, grandchildren and all
with whom she encounters. She raised all of her
children immersed in God’s Word and is a very
kind, caring, passionate prayer warrior. I am
among the blessed to have my mother still with
us in North Carolina. For those of you who are
waiting to reunite with your loved ones in
Heaven, I have enclosed some lyrics from an old
hymn for reflection:
IF I COULD HEAR MY
MOTHER PRAY AGAIN:
Lyrics
How sweet and happy seem those days of which I
dream
When memory recalls them now and then
And with what rapture sweet my weary heart would
beat
If I could hear my mother pray again
If I could only hear my mother pray again if I
could only hear her tender voice as then
How happy I would be with who means so much to
me
If I could hear my mother pray again
She used to pray that I on Jesus would rely and
always walk the shining gospel way
So trusting still his love I'll seek that home
above
For I shall meet my mother some glad day
If I could only hear my mother...
