Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth
of July, is the day in 1776 that we declared our
independence from Great Britain. The 4th is
usually filled with fun outdoor activities such
as, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs,
picnics, concerts, baseball games, family
gatherings and culminates in a wondrous display
of fireworks. It is a great day of celebration!
Often
discussed is whether our founding fathers
established the guidelines of our nation, “Under
God.” One example of many that makes it clear of
their intention is a prayer by George
Washington---
President George Washington wrote a prayer
addressed to "O most glorious God, in Jesus
Christ" and ended it with this: "Let me live
according to those Holy rules which thou hast
this day prescribed in Thy Holy Word. Direct me
to the true object, Jesus Christ, the Way, the
Truth and the Life. Bless O Lord all the people
of this land."
As
Christians we are strong believers that our
great country follows the tradition that, “IN
GOD WE STILL TRUST.” It is so encouraging that
all of this dates back to our founding patriots.
They read the Bible. They prayed to God and they
worshipped God. We are so blessed to still
maintain religious freedom in this great nation!
We give thanks to our amazing military, past and
present, for their selfless actions throughout
all the years. Their service has allowed us to
maintain our distinctive homeland, the land of
the free, as penned in our National Anthem,
The
Star Spangled Banner:
Oh!
Thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand,
Between their loved homes and the war's
desolation,
Blest
with victory and peace, may the Heav'n - rescued
land,
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved
us a nation.
Then
conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And
this be our motto - "In God is our trust."
And
the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave,
O'er
the land of the free and the home of the brave.
What a
heritage that has been passed on to us! What a
treasure we have to encourage our decisions at
this disturbing time in history. Yes, America's
true patriotism is God-based for it is totally
reliant on His provisions for our liberties to
continue! Without Him, we are nothing.
May we
pause on this day to reflect upon the
significant role that God plays in our lives;
give praise to Him for His many blessings and
pray for our nation and for each other.
HAPPY
4th of JULY! Enjoy all of the fun and activities
and be safe.
May
God bless you all is our prayer,
Danny,
Allen, Mark and Tommy
