On July 4, 1776, the USA declared independence
from the Kingdom of Great Britain. This is a
national holiday and we commemorate this special
event with fireworks, parades, barbecues,
carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball
games, family reunions, political speeches and
ceremonies, and various other public and private
events celebrating our history.
We hope that often discussed is
whether our founding fathers established the
guidelines of our nation, “Under God.” One
example of many that makes it clear of their
intention is a prayer by George Washington.
President George Washington wrote a prayer
addressed to "O most glorious God, in Jesus
Christ" and ended it with this: "Let me live
according to those holy rules which thou hast
this day prescribed in Thy Holy Word. Direct me
to the true object, Jesus Christ, the Way, the
Truth and the Life.
John
Adams said ... These blessings are not
accidental – they are blessings of God. This is
... John Adams believed that the Fourth of July
should be a religious holiday.
As Christians we are strong
believers that our great country follows the
tradition that, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” What is so
encouraging is that all of this dates back to
our founding patriots. They read the Bible. They
prayed and worshipped God. They established the
laws and institutions of America on the biblical
ethic. They dreamed of this country's future
years being blessed by God.
What a heritage they passed on to
us. What a treasure we have to encourage and
provide us much needed hope and comfort at this
troubling time in history. America's true
patriotism is God-based for it is totally
reliant on His provisions for our liberties to
continue!
So many acts of violence, shocking headlines,
senseless killings, persecution of Christians
and a feeling of hopelessness is quite prevalent
today. There is a great need for the power of
prayer to shape our lives and renew our hope and
spirit. Let us remember that our future is in
God’s hands and we rely on our personal
relationship with Jesus Christ to give us the
strength and courage to face the challenges any
of us face. He will never leave or forsake us.
Bless His Holy name!
As always we offer a special prayer for all of
our military men and women, past and present who
have sacrificed so much to allow us to remain a
free nation.
HAPPY 4th of JULY! Enjoy all of the
festivities and the summer and be safe.
May God bless you all!
